Industrial Mops and Buckets, Brooms and Brushes – Essential Cleaning Equipment through Pescatech
Egyptians are recorded to have used buckets to carry water from as early as 3000 BCE. Ancient Greeks used spiralled rope bins sealed with a pitch to store wine and fight fires, and variations of these were used to draw water from communal wells for millennia before its modern name was allocated to the flat-bottomed, open-ended vessels.
It is thought that the naming convention first appeared in the 13th Century when buckets were made from animal intestines, possibly derived from the Old English word “buc,” meaning pitcher, a swollen belly or bulging vessel. In fact, buckets were made from any material that was available in abundance in the regions where they were being manufactured.
However, the modern industrial cleaning equipment vessel was brought to the fore when Frenchman, Stanislas Sorel, patented galvanization in 1837. The process of galvanizing iron and steel prevented the metals from rusting and became the leading material that buckets were made from for fighting fire and other purposes, and soon became essential cleaning equipment for janitorial staff internationally.
But what are Buckets without Mops
Galvanized buckets and string (or spaghetti) mops became recognised as the traditional floor cleaning tools for more than one hundred years, but with the introduction of more cost-effective materials, they are now manufactured from many different mediums in a range of shapes and sizes for a multitude of purposes. Cost-effective plastic buckets were introduced in the 1960s and were globally adopted to transport cleaning liquids to wash everything from windows and ceilings to floors.
Mops have since evolved equally to modern-day dust and dirt busters. Although still widely used, the string mop is being alternated with modern, high-tech microfiber products that can dry; damp or wet-mop many different floor types and surfaces for the collection of dirt, dust or polluted water.
Buckets and Brooms, Brushes and Mops
Hand in hand, these two essential cleaning tools have formed the basis of domestic and industrial cleaning kits all over the world. Catering to completely different markets, these items are either mass-produced in cheap variations for the domestic market or more advanced materials are used like purpose-produced plastics, scientifically developed microfiber and polyurethane for more hygienic and industrial applications.
Accompanying these two stalwarts of the janitorial trade is the balance of the toolbox. Brooms, brushes scoops, towels and an armoury of additional equipment assist in excellent cleaning results. Cleaning kits by world-leading brands including Vikan and other equally recognised, imported European products should be at their disposal in colour-coded sequence to avoid accidental cross-contamination of products or chemicals.
