Maintaining clean floors and ensuring proper floorcare with high-quality cleaning equipment is crucial for hygiene in factories, particularly in the Food and Beverage (F&B) and related industries. Walk- or ride-on cleaning equipment proves highly effective, especially in larger factories, and should never be underestimated as a floor-cleaning solution. However, in smaller operations where space is restricted, owners rely on smaller tools in their janitorial armoury. But this does not mean the cleaning of floors needs to be any less effective.

In this article, we at Pescatech will explain the importance of hygienic floorcare and what it is, and offer a few tips and hints for keeping your floors spotless and well maintained.

The Importance of Cleaning Equipment in Hygienic Floorcare

Efficient floorcare is essential for any food-preparation factory and the tools that clean them are just as important. Off-the-shelf equipment might lose fibres or crack and chip, leaving contaminated floor residue in crucial preparation areas. Superior-quality cleaning equipment is designed to withstand the rigorous cleaning practices in sterile environments, like our Vikan range of products. These have been manufactured by globally renowned professionals and may be used in any industry, including F&B sectors, the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, university laboratories, and more.

The importance of using internationally recognised brands, such as Vikan products, for cleaning equipment is clear. Insufficiently cleaned or dirty floors gather dust, grime, oil, and other dangers that may cause injury to staff or customers, resulting in costly hospital bills or legal actions. Additionally, it may lead to cross-contamination with food products, leading to losses in production time and batches of products. These products might find themselves in a consumer market, causing food poisoning or the spread of disease, and could lead to factory closures.

What is Industrial Floorcare?

Effective floorcare is the function of removing dust, dirt, unnecessary spillage, harmful pollutants, and other materials from production, ablution, administration, and other work area floors so that they may be used to their maximum efficiency without contaminating surrounding work surfaces or causing health concerns.

Janitorial staff work with specifically designed cleaning equipment and chemicals to safely and effectively remove these elements from floors. This increases productivity and product quality and decreases manufacturing costs.

5 Steps to Keep Your Floors Spotless and Well Maintained

Here are five steps for keeping your floors clean and well maintained:

  1. Seal Your Floor Surface: Whether it is concrete or tile and grout, some of these surfaces are porous. Water, oil, grease, and other liquids may be absorbed into the floor, leading to the deterioration of the surface. Not sealing your floor could lead to repairs, equating to production downtime and consequential losses. A quality, non-slip, easy-to-clean sealant will prevent this from happening.
  2. Schedule Cleaning Times: In sterile environments, floors need to be cleaned at least twice daily. Floor cleaning is a laborious and inconvenient task. That said, whether it is between shifts or production batches, schedule times for cleaning both the equipment and the floor. This creates a routine that everyone will follow, making floorcare more manageable and tolerable
  3. Schedule Line Shutdowns: Prepare for intermittent shutdowns of independent sections of your factory where all equipment cleaning and floorcare are addressed. This may mean that you need to contract professionals to comprehensively sterilise these sections. Ensure that any cleaning equipment used in these areas are quality products to ensure a deep, thorough cleaning.
  4. Do Not Overuse Products or Equipment: Only use the prescribed amount of cleaner and do not scrub too hard. Excessive scrubbing and too many chemicals could damage the sealant or the flooring and leave residues that could be difficult to remove.
  5. Never Forget the Broom: Regardless of the size of your production area or whether there is a ride-on floor scrubber or not, the broom, brush, bucket, and mop will always have a space within janitorial equipment. Nooks and crannies need to be as clean as open floor space, so these cleaning utensils are vital tools in any factory. The floor needs to be swept, scrubbed, sometimes power washed, mopped, and dried before work can continue. For these tasks, we at Pescatech are here to assist you.
